Basic Classes

These classes are available to characters at any time.

Barbarian

Barbarian

Warriors from tribes who exalt battle above all else.

They are notable for their berserker rages, in which they commit entirely to the fight: either all of them enemies die or I do. They forsake personal safety in order to deliver the most savage blows possible.

Barbarians in a berserker rage get double attacks but nothing short of incapacitation will stop them once they’ve started.

Bard

Bard

She’s a jane-of-all-trades. She can fight reasonably well, can handle traps reasonably well, and can even cast a smattering of Wizard spells.

But where she really excels is in her ability to use her knowledge of history and lore to identify monsters and magic items. Her encyclopedic knowledge can aid the entire party in defeating a monster whose weaknesses she's learned.

Cleric

Cleric

Priests and priestesses of one or more deities.

Priests are blessed with a collection of spells, primarily related to healing and curing, but are more than capable of unleashing divine wrath upon foes.

They also have the ability to destroy or banish unholy abominations such as the undead and even demons through the sheer power of their faith.

Clerics can wear all but the heaviest of armors and wield all but the heaviest of weapons.

Fighter

Fighter

The ultimate warriors. They can use any weapon ever invented. They can wear any armor; in fact, they wear armor better than anyone else. An armored fighter is harder to hit than any other armored foe.

Fighters are hardier than any other class, and at higher levels, they are whirling mechanisms of death.

Monk

Monk

Masters of the martial arts through rigorous physical and spiritual training. They are capable of delivering fierce attacks without any weapons at all: fist, foot, knee, elbow, and more!

Their unforgiving training regimens have tuned their reflexes to nearly supernatural levels. Their understanding of distance and timing are matched perhaps only by Fighters. Even without any armor they often will have armor classes superior to the armored members of their parties.

Thief

Thief

The cunning thief has a particular set of skills that one does not discuss in polite company. Regrettably, there are some times when such skills are all that stand between your party and death.

A thief excels at all things sneaky, such as picking pockets, disarming traps, and can even disappear into the dark and deal devastating blows to enemies in much the same way that an Assassin or Ninja can.

Wizard

Wizard

Masters of the arcane, Wizards are able to tap into mystic forces, which they can convert into spells.

Wizards are extremely limited in the weapons and armor they can use, and the intensity of their studies has left them very frail.

However, in return for these sacrifices, they have the ability to cast extremely powerful spells, including those that unleash devastating forces onto all foes.

Prestige Classes

Prestige Classes are special classes that can only be a character's second class. They are not available at character creation time.

AntiPaladin (Prestige Class)

Antipaladin

The vilest of the vile. Antipaladins are the inverse image of the holy Paladin. They have all the abilities of a paladin, except they can not cast healing spells.

In addition to their combat ability, they can escape into the shadow realm like an assassin, though they do not get the Assassin Strike ability. Instead, they are able to do something far, far worse.

While in shadow, the Antipaladin can whisper terrible, spirit-destroying secrets to his foes. Their ears do not detect these vile words: their souls do, and it drives a mortal terror into all but the most fearless of adversaries, causing them to flee in horror.

Antipaladins have been granted cleric spells by whatever infernal powers watch over them, but this sacrilege has its limits: the Antipaladins are unable to cast healing spells.

Assassin (Prestige Class)

Assassin

Disreputable, despicable, but extremely effective. Sometimes, you just need to make certain obstacles … disappear. At such a time, you need an assassin.

An assassin is adept at using poison and if her Assassin Strike does not kill her opponent outright, the hapless enemy will slowly die from her venom, bleeding away a little of its life each round.

Ninja (Prestige Class)

Ninja

The master of the night, the deadly Ninja can disappear into the dark and reappear behind an enemy to inflict a devastating attack. Like the Monk, a Ninja has mastered both armed and unarmed combat, and has built such a devastating defense that he rarely needs to wear armor.

Paladin (Prestige Class)

Paladin

A holy warrior: sort of a combination of Fighter and Cleric.

Like a fighter, he can use all weapons and armors. But he also has access to the same spells and abilities as a Cleric, though he gains these slower than a Cleric would.

Ranger (Prestige Class)

Ranger

Defenders of the realm. Hardy warriors, who through self-reliance and grueling training, have picked up a smattering of unusual skills.

For instance, a Ranger with a high enough Dexterity can wield two different weapons at the same time.

At higher levels, he also begins to learn to harness magic and gains the ability to cast Wizard spells.

Samurai (Prestige Class)

Samurai

The ultimate warrior, fearless and brutal, dedicated to the domination of the enemy and of the self. She can wear most armors and use most weapons.

Her sword arts emphasize the first strike, and she drills for this incessantly. Such is her mastery that she commits totally to her initial attack, dealing extra damage.

In addition, Samurai are taught since childhood that an honorable death is the pinnacle of life, and the more impossible the battle in which you die, the more honor there is to have fought in it.

To this end, the worse the odds, the more the Samurai thrives. In an impossible battle against vastly superior foes, the Samurai is a fearsome wonder to behold!
