Ability Scores

These summaries describe where each score is currently used in Stonequest gameplay systems. Effects can stack with race, class, items, feats, and spell conditions.

Strength

Strength primarily governs martial power.

  • Boosts melee to-hit and damage in combat.
  • Feeds class eligibility checks (many martial classes require high Strength).

Notes:

  • Some finesse builds can use Dexterity for damage instead, based on feats.

Intelligence

Intelligence drives arcane aptitude and knowledge-heavy actions.

  • Increases Wizard spell point bonuses.
  • Contributes to class eligibility for several classes.
  • Supports systems that reward analysis and item-identification skill.

Wisdom

Wisdom is the core divine casting and judgment score.

  • Increases Cleric spell point bonuses.
  • Contributes to class eligibility for faith-focused and hybrid classes.
  • Affects systems that depend on perception, insight, and willpower checks.

Dexterity

Dexterity controls speed, precision, and defensive quickness.

  • Improves Armor Class adjustment.
  • Helps determine who attacks first in combat.
  • Can add extra attacks at high values in melee attack logic.
  • Improves pickpocket chance and other dexterity-driven checks.

Notes:

  • With the right feats, Dexterity may also replace Strength for attack/damage bonuses.

Constitution

Constitution determines durability.

  • Adds or subtracts hit points gained per level.
  • Improves poison and some magic/fear related saving-throw outcomes for specific race/class combinations.
  • Helps survival in escape-style scenarios where endurance matters.

Charisma

Charisma determines persuasion and likability.

  • Makes monsters less likely to hate you.
  • Helps whenever social presence or performance is involved.

Luck

Luck is a broad tie-breaker statistic used across many systems.

  • Adjusts saving throws and special resist logic.
  • Improves resurrection success chance via luck multipliers.
  • Raises pickpocket success and helps escape calculations.
  • Influences party-level surprise outcomes and other event probabilities.
